This impressive stone globe overlooking the Jurassic coast is resting within Durlston Country Park, Dorset UK. It weighs 40 tonnes and is 3 meters in diameter and is one of the largest stone spheres in the world. The Globe was constructed in Greenwich in 1887 and made of Portland stone, engraved with a 1880s world map.
The interesting plaques around the globe are carved quotations from the Bible as well as English and Roman poets. This beautiful globe should last many hundreds of years for future generations to enjoy.
