Chimney Sweeper Moth (Odezia Atrata)

his unusual day flying moth which prefers to fly in bright sunshine was found on grassy chalkland meadows which are their normal habitat. Photographed at Farley Mount, Hampshire in June. The moth is a sooty black except for white fringes on the tips of the forewings. The caterpillars feed on the flowers and seeds of pignut.
