This is recommended as the first spider for a beginner being very hardy to keep and I always enjoy handling these attractive spiders, females are long lived up to 14 years. I have a Pink Chilean spider that when it feels the loud click of the locking catch of its vivarium always walks towards the front when I open the door. Maybe it is expecting food or just protecting its self in its home even though it never flicks hair or bites. It is sad when I have to replace one of my spiders for my photographic record, but will always keep one of these in my collection.
